Question: What thickness do I want on my wear layer?

On vinyl planks flooring the Wear Layer is important. It’s how much scratching and stain resistance you’ll have on your floor. The higher the better.

6 Mil or less; is Very Very subpar, maybe suitable for rental properties if you’re looking for a steal but not recommended.

12 Mil; Alright for low traffic residential. adults with no pets, children and who are extremely careful can make do with this thickness.

20 Mil; Good for most family lives, okay for small to medium dogs and children. Not scratch proof but good resistance for the everyday family.

Above 20 Mil; anything above 20 Mil is going to be pretty dang durable, strong scratch resistance, strong stain resistance. Good for light to medium commercial traffic.
